LOS ANGELES, CA -- Kelly Perdew, winner of “The Apprentice” season two, will host a brand-new three-part, world premiere series on the Military Channel. Perdew is a former U.S. military intelligence officer and a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. Premiering on Friday, March 24, at 8 PM, (ET/PT), GI FACTORY showcases the design and manufacture of state-of-the-art military hardware at factories across the country. The second and third premiere episodes will air on consecutive Fridays, March 31 and April 7, at 8 PM (ET/PT).
GI FACTORY offers an inside look at the fascinating and secretive world of military equipment – where and how military hardware is made and the people who make it. The series inspects military equipment from inception to deployment—everything from land, sea and air vehicles, to weapons, to different types of protective gear. Each one-hour episode of GI FACTORY explores three factories to reveal how the gear, vehicles and weapons America’s fighting forces need are made.
In addition to getting deep into the nuts and bolts of the process, Perdew introduces viewers to the designers who create the product, the engineers who test it before it goes into battle and the hard-working folks on the factory floor who craft, shape, weld and hammer raw materials into battle-ready systems. Perdew travels across the country, stopping at factories, manufacturing facilities and testing labs, hearing firsthand from the men and women who are proud to create the equipment that saves the lives of our military troops on a daily basis. Perdew also gets a glimpse of the hardware in action, including watching troops engage in tank exercises at Fort Knox.
Perdew visits a variety of production facilities, including Northrop Grumman in Knoxville, Tenn., which creates bomb-detecting robots; the Abrams battle tank factory in Lima, Ohio; the Boeing plant in Philadelphia, Pa., where the Chinook helicopter is manufactured; Armor Works in Tempe, Arizona, which makes body armor for the troops; and Armor Holdings in Scranton, Pa., where Kevlar helmets are produced.
