Celebrity Apprentice 2 Starts Tonight!

by Kelly Perdew Apprentice, Charity, Donald Trump, Entrepreneur, Leadership, RotoHog.com

Wow, hard to believe that was December of 2004 when I won Season 2.  My year working with Donald in New York was great and I learned a lot.  Now I’m running RotoHog, a fantasy sports gaming company and we build fantasy sports games for companies like NBA, Turner Digital, Pro Football Weekly, AVP, and Fox Espanol.

The Celebrity version is definitely a different type of show.  It is fun to watch, but any sense of the results of the task and/or the Boardroom really impacting the individual contestants is missing.  I think it is great that they are supporting charities and it is fun to watch the various stars try to lead their teams through the tasks.  I wonder if they are ever going to be bring back the “old” version of the show?

Do you think they should?

I strongly believe they should go back to the old version of the show. One of the things I miss the most is the passion the contestants showed during the old version. They had a business background and a passion for it and it really showed through. For the celebrities, there is no passion there. It is really just a 15 week business boot camp for them. The celebrities don’t really even take advantage of this by relying so much on their contacts to come through in the clutch with some big donations to save their team. In my eyes, its cheating and the job applicants from the older seasons did not have this.

The Apprentice experience was really make or break for the job applicants of the old version and, as you have experienced, it can change their entire lives. For the Celebrities, after the Apprentice experience, win or lose, they are just going to go back to where they were before. Piers is still a judge on America’s Got Talent. Joan is still pushing jewelry on QVC. It is essentially like having the entire cast feel like Raj, John and Elizabeth did on the final task on your season, It would be nice to win, but I don’t care.

Would I want them to bring back the old version? Of source! If Mr. Trump announced they were reverting back to the old format, I would go down to Trump Tower myself and hand in my application. I may be a 17 year old High School Student, but I have proven in DECA that I can compete in the business world. and I believe I would be a perfect fit for the Apprentice. I would have no problem convincing Mr. Trump of this in the boardroom. In the end though, I don’t think Mr. Trump will ever return to the old version. From a business standpoint, it doesn’t make sense for him to do so. America is obsessed with celebrities, and that means higher ratings for him, even if they are D-List celebrities.
